Lulu Zhang
Ms Zhang has over 20 years of professional experiences in live entertainment production and management, artist management, cultural exchange between east and west, and arts administration in both China and the United States. Born in Shanghai, Ms Zhang attended China Communication University with a major in Television Production and graduated from Columbia University in New York with a Master in Arts Administration.
Ms Zhang was the Chief Representative of Greater Asia for Broadway Asia Entertainment, the largest producer and touring operation of Broadway musicals in Asia. She opened its Shanghai office in 2005, produced the first Chinese adaptation of an American musical in China, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change; organized a 9 city-tour of BAE’s production 42nd St throughout China in 2007 for total 11 performance weeks; toured BAE’s Asia tour of Cinderella starring Lea Salonga, and the North American tour of Hairspray premiered at both Shanghai Grand Theater and Beijing Cultural Olympics Festival in August 2008.
Ms Zhang has worked closely with many acclaimed Chinese-American artists, among them she has served as manager and producer for both Oscar winning Composer/Conductor Tan Dun and one of the most active contemporary artists in today’s world, Mr Cai Guo-Qiang for many years. Her major production and performance credits for Tan Dun include: film score and original soundtrack album of Zhang Yi Mou’s film Hero; The world premiere of the multi-media cello concerto The Map with Yo-Yo Ma and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the world premier of The First Emperor at Metropolitan Opera House starring Plácido Domingo.
Ms Zhang has represented visual artist Cai Guo-Qiang and produced various art projects for him worldwide since 2010, include: his solo exhibition at Arab Museum of Modern Art in Qatar in 2011, the first contemporary art exhibition by an international artist in middle east; One Night Stand: Explosion Event for Nuit Blanche Festival in Paris in 2013; Odyssey and Homecoming, the first contemporary art solo exhibition at Beijing Palace Museum opened in December 2020. She worked with Mr Cai on the opening and closing ceremonies of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and was a core member of the business strategy team behind his first NFT art project Transient Eternity, auctioned for US$2,500,000 in August 2021.
Ms Zhang also had a major producing role in Mr Cai’s biographical documentary film Sky Ladder: The Art of Cai Guo-Qiang directed by Oscar winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, premiered at Sundance Film Festival and distributed by Netflix in 2016.
Currently Ms Zhang is working on Mr Cai’s new NFT and visual reality projects in both US and China.
